GMS teachers had a blast today at the first day of our summer professional development! Our theme for the 2019-2020 school year is Grit 2 Great, and the team embraced the challenge of instilling our students with the values of courage, conscientiousness, perseverance, resilience, and passion. We took time to discuss our professional growth goals for the upcoming school year, to develop ideas for improving our intervention and enrichment programs, and to write our own Hippocratic oaths to reaffirm our commitments to our students. One teacher summed it up best when he wrote “I do not teach a statistic, I teach a child.” The staff also took the time to have some fun, competing in a tower building game and a life-sized version of battleship. We celebrated our student success on the ACT Aspire Summative test, and we reviewed our strategies for supporting reading at the middle-level. The GMS team is working hard to make big things happen this year, and we are excited to welcome our students back in August!
